Handmade hemp baskets make a beautiful addition to the home and what’s more they are reversible so you can switch the look according to your mood and style for the room.
They make great storage baskets to help keep your floors or worktops tidy. Alternatively pop a plant in them to liven up a space.
These baskets are made from unique hemp fabric which is constructed entirely by hand. Using traditional methods the yarn is spun and then woven on traditional Hmong looms in remote mountainous villages in Laos. All the printing and construction is carried out in house in our Laos studio by our team of talented creators. Your purchase with us ensures that the makers we work with can continue using their craft as a means to support their families living in the more remote areas of Laos.

Passa Paa is a textile studio based in the heritage town of Luang Prabang in Laos, south east Asia.
Long time friends, Hongkham Xiong a Hmong/Lao artisan and Heather Smith a U.K textile designer saw a need for Hmong artisans and hemp farmers in Laos to find a market for their skills and raw materials. In 2012 Heather and Hongkham founded their studio Passa Paa (meaning The Language of Cloth in Lao language) as a place to design unique products that encorporated these local crafts and provided an income for local textile makers.
Their products combine beautiful hand woven hemp cloth that is only found in this region with hand screen prints inspired by local motifs along with hand stitched applique.
